TRACKS AND DRAINAGE
Case Study 7
SITUATION/CHALLENGE
Over time it had become difficult for engineers to get vans on to site, due to roads and tracks becoming damaged. Draining issues presented a health and safety risk for engineers on site.
BGE SOLUTION
- Full Project Management from design through to completion
- Construction of Hardcore tracks
- Installation of surface water drainage and utility access holes
- Alterations to existing fencing and the installation of a new access gate:
- Temporary compound area and welfare facilities
- Construction of new outfalls into existing ditch
- HV protection slabs
- Temporary protection to the high-pressure gas mains.
- On site track works undertaken to ensure safe access and egress to site. – and to also allow for the pre-emptive exchange of Transformers.
- With the site roads liable to flooding, it made the removal of failed plant from site difficult.
- Works carried out from June through to September.
- Site remained live and exporting energy throughout the remedial works. – No loss of revenue incurred.
- Over 2km of tracks replaced
- Zero accidents throughout the on site works period.
- All additional stone was sourced from local quarries, with local contractors used for logistics.
- Full Habitat surveys undertaken prior to works, and reinstatement works done following project completion
Outcome
With works complete, ease of attending site has vastly improved. Site now drains properly, making works much more efficient.
Project delivered within budget and timescales on behalf of client. BGE ensured all works were safe throughout and no loss of generation incurred.
Site is now a safe environment ensuring any corrective works can be completed moving forwards without delay.
