INVERTER REPOWERING IN CORNWALL
Case Study 3
Situation/Challenge
This 15.6MW solar farm was taken over by BGE in December 2017. The site had been experiencing high failure rates at Station 8 due to readings from faulty inverters over the previous two years.
BGE Solution
Our engineering and 24/7 monitoring teams located the faulty site and retrofit works began on 1st June 2020. The construction of a centralised solution was undertaken which saw 18 x SMA string inverters mounted alongside the existing inverter station.
Outcome
After just 21 days of construction, and once new configuration codes were sent to GPM for monitoring, Station 8 was confirmed operational on 22nd June 2020.
The summer months following the installation saw an average PR improvement compared to the previous year of over 10%. The production uplift and maintenance savings together imply a payback period of only 5 years.
“We are all VERY impressed with the quality (and beauty) of this installation. Bravo Foresight and BGE!!!” – SMA Solar UK
