Situation/Challenge
This site was identified to have intermittent communication issues, so a proposal was put forward to improve the site communications whilst upgrading the equipment and resilience to cybersecurity attack at the same time.
This site consisted of two satellites running separate SCADA and CCTV systems installed during the time of construction. A separate router was also installed subsequently to provide remote access to the site inverters.
BGE Solution
GSM was utilised to replace the satellite systems, and our turnkey design was implemented to improve the network reliability and resilience to failure.
Outcome
The final installation was a simpler, better protected network consisting of fewer devices. Features of the installation include a high gain antenna and back-up UPS, a robust VPN capable router, and an encrypted cloud-based RMS platform for increased communication resilience and cybersecurity.
